Computer Fiction?

Interesting article on AI fiction... I wonder... would MEXICA pass a Turing test?

I dream like a mad one...

Had strange, strange dreams last night.... all the more strange that I can't remember them. I know they included my mom, Brian, Chad, and some random subset of people I knew/know from State. But I can't really put my finger on anything else about them, other than they were strange. Bits and peices are coming back to me, though, but none of it makes sense. And it's kind of annoying, cause I'll be reading a journal article, and all of a sudden I'm like, What the hell were we doing driving Hil's car? And how did we all fit? And where were we going? And then of course, I have totally lost track of what I was reading.

Strange, strange dreams.

I rule! (or I should?)

You Should Rule Venus

Venus is a mysterious, stormy planet - shrouded in a thick layer of clouds.

You are perfect to rule Venus, because you are quite emotional and volatile yourself.
Your emotions change as rapidly as the weather on Venus, and both you and the planet are incomprehensible to others.

While you are not a logical thinker, you are quite empathetic.
You can care for and understand others, but your emotions swirl too quickly to truly understand yourself.

Quote of the day

From a chapter in textbook:

Az di bobe volt gehat beytsim volt zi geven mayn zeyde (Yiddish, literally: "If my grandmother had balls, she'd be my grandfather").

The sky pours out biblical rain / Then days so still the beauty gives you pain

[whining] My back still hurts. [/whining] Nothing new there.

It's really freakin' cold here. Just in case you wondered. We're too far south to have gotten a lot of the ice and stuff, but cold cold rain... yeah, not much fun. They closed Rice this morning (when I didn't have class), but are open all afternoon (when I have class).

But this (nsfw!) made me laugh today... Because I am sick and wrong. But then, I suppose, that's why I read PennyArcade.

Also, for like, the first time ever, I'm totally ahead on homework. Not only am I ahead... I've been ahead for two days. Yeah, really. I finished everything yesterday that was due this week... got assigned a new homework yesterday afternoon, and finished it just a few minutes ago. So yeah. I might get to enjoy my weekend (well.... I know I'm going to get assigned a pile of journal articles to read over the weekend. But it was a nice thought).

Sinfest

omg... Sinfest hit the nail on the head. Again. (Although "hangover" might not be the most appropriate title, as my grogginess is caused by muscle relaxants (we assume) these days).

Not the doctor

Oh. My. God. I just want to go to a doctor that will fix my back, and my head, and will not make me hurt worse or make me come and see them 8 million times a week. Is that too much to ask?

So I went to a family practice doctor today. I waited for almost an hour to get into his office (no big deal, I expect to wait). Then, he doesn't intorduce himself, and this is the conversation that we have...

Him: So why are you here?
Me just like I told the girl who scheduled me, and the girls when I checked in, and wrote on at least 3 medical forms: I have had a headache for 8 days now. My lower back hurts, and I had a car accident 6 days ago that might account for some of the back pain.
Him: I don't do car accidents. Did you tell my girls all this?
Me: Yes, but what about my headache?
Him: I'll refer you to another doctor for the back pain, and I won't charge you a co-pay. *mumbles about ambulance chasers*.
Me: But what about my headache? it hurt before the accident?
Him: *has already left the room*

Yeah. Total waste of my time. Didn't listen to anything I said, didn't look at me. I hate doctors. The doctor he refered me to... is a surgeon. In Alvin. I am not driving all the way to Alvin to have someone tell me that I need back surgery. Stoopid doctors.

So now I have to find a new family doctor. Again. Preferably not one who's an ass. Are there just so many doctors in Houston that they feel like they can all be asses? I mean, really. This is ridiculous. I don't really care what insurance gets charged for the medical stuff... it's not like the chick who hit me is paying any of it... I just want someone to fix me, dammit.

Blah.

So... I'm not going to post that much since 1) my head and back still hurt, but I'm tired of whining about it. and 2) I haven't done anything of interest this week (see 1).

I did, however, apparently go through some weird rite of initiation or somehting yesterday. I was enrolled for a class... that was supposed to meet at 1pm. I went and sat in the class.... no one showed. no one. So I went to the secretary, and asked her to look it up... right time, right class, right room, 10 people are registered... called the professor who was supposed to be teaching it. She had no idea. Called the former department chair. She said it only meets sometimes, not every week, and someone should be in contact with me. Went to see my advisor, who was like "oh really? That's news to me...". Go figure. Out of 10 students, I was the only one who showed up. I am, however, not the only 1st year who's enrolled. yeah.

Anyway. I have an appointment with a regular doctor on Monday afternoon, to hopefully address this back/headache issue. Hopefuly, something will come of it. Meanwhile, I'm still seeing the chiropractor like, three times a week (five times a day? Who has time for that?).

And the house is still a mess. Unfortunately, it doesn't clean itself.

Even more whining. I'm on a roll, I guess.

So Tuesday, coming home from school, I got rearended AGAIN. By someone who, it turns out, doesn't have insurance.

So. My back still hurts. More now, actually. I'm still working on a headache that I've had since Monday morning. And I'm really really tired. And I've spend like, a million dollars this week (no, not really, but close enough) on books and software and rolly bags to hold my computer (and books) since I can't lift it.

And I discovered today, that my laptop does not actually have a ps/2 connection on it. Which is lovely, since I don't have a usb keyboard. Looks like another trip to best buy...

More whining

Had X-rays done today (will find out what they mean tomorrow). Then came to school, to try and catch my professor in his office. (he hasn't been in, yet, since I've been here). My back hurts. And I'm whiney.

I may go home here in about 30 minutes, if I can't track down anyone I need to talk to. Meanwhile, I need to price docking stations and other ergonomic solutions for my office at school, since I will be spending waaaaay to much time here aver the next, say, five years or so.

Blah.

Do you ever have one of those day where you feel totally useless? I mean... like a total waste of space and resources.

Yeah, that was yesterday afternoon/evening. In the morning, I ran lots of errands (that is to say, 1.5 errands, really), and got some stuff done, and even dragged a friend along to help ensure that I didn't do anything stupid. But... befre I left, I picked up the dog for some reason (no idea why)... and while we were at Sam's, I picked up like, 20 lbs of cat food. Because I'm dumb.

So then I came home, and i was hurting, but I thought... you know, it would be awesome to like, have people over to play games and stuff tonight. But my house is a wreck still. So... I emptied the dishwasher, I picked up trash, I moved a bunch of (little, or at least not heavy) things out to the garage and some other things upstairs... and yeah, after an hour or so of that, I could barely walk. Chad came home, bringing me motrin, and ordering me to take it easy. But yeah, by the time he got home, I wasn't fit to do much of anything but whine and cry and bitch about my back. So we ate sammiches, and watched Family Guy. And poker. And then I went to bed.

And the house is still a wreck. I had intended t have everything back in shape by the time school starts (tomorrow), but that's totally not going to happen.

Today, I'm supposed to drive out to work and put in four or five hours.... but my back hurts, and the whole prospect is kind of annoying. On the other hand, if I stay here, I won't get anything accomplished, either. I hate this shit.

X-rays tomorrow, and go back to the chiropractor on Tuesday to get them read.

Home sweet home...

We are home. And I got to sleep in my bed last night, which was awesome.

However, the animals are now lonely. Mocha is crying, because she doesn't have Princess (Chad's parent's dog) to play with, and Kitty cried all night looking for the other cats (Chad's parent's cats). So it might take them a little bit to get readjusted.

other than that, things are ok. I managed to kill my back over the break, which I then agrivated by spending a million hours in the car, lifting things I should have known not to lift, and sleeping on beds that were too small to hold me, Chad, a dog and a cat. So now I get to go to the doctor and let her tell me how stupid I was. Yay for doctors! or something.
