Serenity

So I went and saw Serenity last night (Saturday night). And I thought it was an ok movie. Not a great movie, not the best movie in the world, not "the next Star Wars", just ok.

Apparently, this makes me odd.

Given, I have't seen Firefly (which makes me an oddity in the geek world, I know)... So I didn't have the it's-going-to-be-awesome fan-girl attachment to the film going into it.

But yeah. Things I liked about the movie: The plot was fairly interesting, the characters were decently well developed (having a season of character development helped), the acting was ok, and they did some cool things with memory and madness and stuff. Things I didn't like: They overdid the CG, given their budget. The movie was full of CG, but it wasn't quite all there (with the exception of a few scenes where it was really good). I think they could have done less CG and gotten better quality, and it would have made the movie look better overall. The dialog was a little odd... like charachters would talk normally for several minutes, and then break some weird grammer rule or something, and it sounded out of place (I'm told this fits with the TV show). Also, the camera angels were weird, and they would move the camera so fast that the background strobed (which generally makes me sick)... and they did this a lot. The fight scenes weren't as well done as they could have been... but they were interesting, at least.

Anyway. Enough for now. I have to sleep or something.

Ah, thanks! I'd been hoping for a good didn't-watch-Firefly-but-scifi-literate review of the flick.

I'm interested in seeing it, but didn't get to this weekend (Saw Mag Des instead; very nice.) And now it's looking like Wallace & Grommit may take priority this coming weekend.

Yeah... I'm still waiting to see The Corpse Bride... and I would like to see Wallace and Grommit, but I'm not sure I'll make it to that one in the theater.

We'll see.
