I am now the proud owner of a brand new Toshiba Satellite M45 laptop. My other laptop (the old one, which was also a Toshiba Satellite) is currently residing at Best Buy, where they may or may not ever succeed in fixing it, but I no longer own it. And as soon as my loan money comes in, a chunk of it goes to pay for my new computer. *sigh*.

But at least I am connected to the outside world now. Yay! And I can actually use my PDA, which has been gathering dust for like, 2 months. YAY!

I like the new laptop, except I think that the Y key is a little sticky. If it gets worse, I guess I'll take it back into the shop.

In other more interesting news, I *might* actually be able to run Tron on this one. (My old laptop lacked the 3d accellerator needed). When I get that far down the list of things to install, I'll let you know. ;-)

Apparently, the goal of going to school for 7 years and getting a bachelors and a masters in computer science... is to be able to have Best Buy computer techs treat me like a total idiot.

I know the difference between a hardware problem and a software problem. I'm pretty sure the drivers don't mysteriously deteriorate to cause things like, sound, to stop working.

And I'm also pretty sure that if they do, the problem is not position specific... as in, the sound won't crackle more or less if you hold the laptop at odd angles.

But what do I know.

Yay!

I survived the beginning of the week. No more (extensive) homework due this week. CSI, here I come (if the next disc actually comes today). *sings and dances* Whoooooo are you... doot doo, doot doo... *stops singing*

I really shouldn't sing in class.

In other news, my trip home this weekend was pretty cool even if all the cool people I know in Huntsville skipped town. Like an anniversary is a good reason to go out of town. Really. But I digress. Chad and I hung out with my mom at work (and got hassled by the rest of the staff about not having kids yet). And we kept my brother up way too late when he had to work the next day (two night in a row). And we went to the Mall, and Best Buy, and Krystals (all places we must go when we visit Huntsville). And we played Risk 2210 (Chad won). And we discussed random money schemes with my Dad. But we did not watch the Reduced Shakespeare Company's Complete Works of Shakespeare (abridged), or Asterix and Obelix vs. Caeser. And we did not do homework. Which bit us (me) in the butt yesterday and today.

Class is almost over...

Homework sucks. Especially when you aren't very motivated.

I actually had something to say, when I started blogging. But I lost it... Blah.

I'll be in Huntsville this weekend, if anyone there wants to look me up or something. Best Buy and the mall, here we come :-)

heh. I love Christmas break. No more spending my break rushing to drive siblings and parents to work at awful hours of the morning (and then go to work myself)... no, this year I stay up all night playing videogames... and sleep all day. Very very nice. I haven't had time to really play video games since.... before midterms. *sigh*.

And now the moment you have all been waiting for (or not)... my thoughts on Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories. Actually, I like it. Which is good, since i went through Hell, two Wal-marts and a Best Buy to get it (I am begining to think that hell and Wal-mart resemble each other somewhat...). But I digress. The new combat system.... is ok. I like it, I manage to kick butt with it (most of the time). I guess they couldn't manage the exploding menu thing from the first one on the GBA. But they worked the card system into the plot very nicely. The plot is also very cool, at least as far as I've gotten in it (I'm between the 10th and 11th floors, there are 13). And rumor has it that once I beat the game as Sora I can play the Riku part of the game (which is different than Sora's game). This makes me happy. As far as time spent... it's about an hour a floor for the lower floors, about an hour and a half for the upper floors so far, and about 15 minutes for the Winnie the Pooh floor. I think I've spent about 12 hours on my ten floors. All in all, I think the game is success (but not sure how well everyone else liked it... Chad hates the card system).

In other news, Chad and I are in Huntsville for another couple of days. We're leaving the 23rd or 24th. And we'll be going to Memphis for a week or so, then home... For school to start :-) (I have to finish Kingdome Hearts before then).

Anyway, gotta run now... need to like, visit with my family or something. :-)

Back.

Not a whole lot to say though. Stuff happened this weekened... Chad got a car (SUV) to replace the dying Intrepid... Some crackho/stupid kid stole my gameboy... we played games with friends and family in the Memphis area (when we weren't car shopping)... we did lots of stuff. but for some reason, I don't feel like saying much.

I need to go write papers and stuff. Because lots of it is due this week. And more of it is due next week. And I will be gone most of the weekend enjoying the sights of North Carolina while Chad enjoys the sights of the end of the World (the White Wolf world, of course. Don't worry... it restarts in January. As if you were worried. Ha). I will have my computer... but I'm not sure how much internet access I will have, as I refuse to pay some outrageous per hour fee for wireless like the last couple of hotels I have stayed in charged. Maybe ours will be more reasonable. Or maybe I'll have to find the library, or an internet cafe or something.

But yeah. If I'm quiet, that's why.

Oh yeah... a key fell off of my keyboard today. One day. After. I was in a town with a Best Buy where they could fix it. Stupid thing will have to wait until Christmas break. Grr.

I really am going to go do more work now (my first paper of the night, due tomorrow, is about 75 words from being finished. Then I have to write a bunch of software engineering stuff, and an abstract for a paper on user interfaces... and something else that I can't remeber right now).

Dude... if you haven't played Neverwinter Nights, you really need to. If you have ever played a d20 game... or even thought about it... Neverwinter Nights will be the awesomest computer RPG you ever play... it's straight out of the 3rd Ed. D&D handbook.

And it's only $25 at Best Buy...

But you better have about 6 weeks of absolutly nothing to do.... because the game will suck you in. It is *so* addictive... Don't say I didn't warn you...

Update: for those of you on alternate operating systems... Neverwinter Nights is available for Linux, and the Trial Mac version is available online. Equal opportunity gaming *grin*
